Donations and a lot of volunteer work made the building possible, members of the organization say. The VFW started with $58,000 for the project, $18,000 of which was used to buy the land the building is located on. Construction began last August.

Now that the building is complete, not only does the VFW have a new home, but the community has a new place for wedding receptions and the like. The post plans to rent the building, which includes a 40-by-70 foot reception hall that seats up to 100 people, for $100.

The post’s old home was a two-room building on Wilgus Street. It was built in the 1800s.
