In December, 2001, a decision was made public and published here that these publications were being offered for sale, with the expectation that a sale would be made during the first quarter of 2002.

Almost simultaneously the Ashland Daily Independent was offered for sale by its owner as part of the sale of that owner’s newspapers in Minnesota, Missouri and Pennsylvania. Sale of those newspapers, including the Ashland Daily Independent, has been announced, and completion of the sale is expected within the month. As a result of the Ashland sale and its possible effects on the larger Huntington-Ashland-Ironton newspaper market, a decision was made by the Ironton Tribune and Extra owner to take its newspapers off the market.

Boone Newspapers, Inc. of Tuscaloosa, Ala., owns Ironton Publications, Inc., which owns The Ironton Tribune and Tribune Extra. This has been the same ownership since the 1970s.
