An out of control garbage fire completely destroyed a garage yesterday afternoon in Perry Township.

Firefighters from the township’s volunteer fire department responded to the fire at a rental home, located at 141 Township Road 161, just off Delta Lane. According to fire reports, the renter told firemen that a garbage fire next to the building went out of control and spread to the garage. Fire Lt. Robert Land said the fire remains under investigation. He said one firefighter was treated by SEOEMS for heat exhaustion but refused transportation to the hospital.
