GREENEVILLE, N.C. – The final chapter in Kristen New’s college career was very well written.

The former Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers All-Ohio star was named to the 2001-02 South Atlantic first team all-conference women’s basketball team.

New, a 5-foot-10 senior forward for Tusculum College, averaged 16.3 points a game to lead the team. Her 6.7 rebound average was second on the squad. She shot 40 percent from the floor, 36 percent (42 of 115) from 3-point range to top the squad, and made 78 percent from the line.

Her 98 assists were one less than team leader Lea Anne Jaynes while her 52 steals led the team. She was second in blocked shots (23) and first in minutes played (827).

New was honored during the SAC all-conference banquet held in Hickory, N.C. Approximately 300 players, coaches, media, support staff and special guests attended this year’s function.
