When Lawrence County Probate/Juvenile Court
Judge David Payne arrived at his home on Sixth Street in Ironton Tuesday evening, he found a flock of flamingoes resting in his yard. No, the birds have not migrated North for the spring – they have been dispatched to raise money for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. The Lawrence County Educational Service Center’s fund-raising project places the birds in people’s yards, and for a $10 fee they will be removed. For an extra $5, victims can choose the next recipient. Judge Payne declined to say where the birds would be sent next, but said it would be a surprise. For a full story, see Page 3 today.
