Ironton’s administration and members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 771 have reached an agreement on a contract. Now it’s a wait-and-see if city council will ratify the measure.
Council’s finance committee met last night before the full council to discuss the issue. Mayor Bob Cleary told the three-man panel that he had planned on bringing them an actual copy of the document, but the contract was in AFSCME’s possession and he couldn’t have a copy ready. He then advised council to wait and read the hard copy.
Cleary said the contract is "pretty much" the same as last year’s with the exception of a 2-percent increase in salaries. This money, city officials said, was budgeted.
The contract has a deadline of April 10, so city officials will hold a special meeting next Thursday to give the measure a reading and to possibly adopt the contract.
