Clyde Barnette

Sept. 24, 1921-May 7, 2002 Clyde W. "Doc" Barnette, 80, of Ironton died Tuesday at his home. The Pedro native was born Sept. 24, 1921, the son of the late John and Eunice Davis Barnette.
He retired after working over 30 years for C&O Railroad as a brakeman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and he was a member of the DAV and a life member of the VFW Post 8850. He was a Baptist and attended Pedro schools.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne Barnette, Marvin Barnette and George Barnett; and two sisters, Bessie Butler and Hazel Barnette.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Carolyn Barnette of Ironton; a good friend, Dorothy "Dot" Collins of Ironton; and one granddaughter, Jessica Barnette of Ironton.
Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Sugar Creek Cemetery, with brother Mack Shope officiating. Military graveside rites will be held by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon at Phillips Funeral Home.
