Aug. 20, 1933-May 27, 2002Delano Lee Carte, 68, of Ironton died Monday at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ironton native was born Aug. 20, 1933, the son of the late Robert and Lydia Meadows Carte.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Martin Carte, whom he married March 9, 1953.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a former member of the Ironton Police Department and retired as a labor foreman with CSX Railroad. He lived most of his life in Ironton.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Carte Jr.; and an infant son, Robert Ashley Carte.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Robin Carte of Deering and Charles and Therese Carte and Rick and Patty Carte, all of Ironton; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda

Mark Adkins of Ironton; eight grandchildren, Tara Carte Nelson, Amy Jackson, Chris Carte, Tanner Carte, Eric Carte, Austin Carte, Katlyn Adkins and Kyle Adkins; three great-grandchildren, Miranda Devaney, Madison Jackson and Aaron Jackson; one sister, Eloise Bays of Ashland; one brother and sister-in-law, Alton Bentley and Sharon Carte of Bellefonte, Ky.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Carte of Flatwoods, Ky.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery, with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. There will be no visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
