HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
-- A Huntington police officer was undergoing surgery Tuesday morning after being shot while trying to make an arrest.
Officer J.E. Combs was shot about 7 a.m. at a west side apartment, Cabell County emergency officials said.
Combs and other officers were trying to make an arrest following an armed robbery earlier Tuesday at a nearby gas station when several shots rang out.
Huntington television stations reported that Combs was shot in the side. Combs was able to make it to a cruiser and was transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
Hospital officials said Tuesday morning that Combs was in surgery, and his condition was not immediately available.
Four people were reportedly taken in to custody. The Associated Press
