After shooting a 180 team score on Monday, the Ironton Fighting Tigers bounced back to post a 166 team score on Thursday at the Shawnee State Park golf course.
Despite the good showing, Ironton still lost to Portsmouth West 145 to 166.
"We played much better, and we still have room for improvement," Ironton coach Jeff Kerns said. "Justin Gillum played really well for us today and I think he's capable of playing even better. I was pleased with out effort today."
Gillum shot a career-low 39 to pace Ironton. Jeff Parnell had a 40, Nick Boggess 42, and Dennis Gagai a 45.
Others playing for Ironton had Brent McBride with a 47 and Alex Fairchild carded a 51.
West had five golfers who shot under 40 on its home course.
