Meigs blanks Dragons; NW routs Pointers

POMEROY -- Jeremy Roush should change his last name to Rush.

The Meigs Marauders running back rushed for 138 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 33-0 win over the Fairland Dragons Friday.

Meigs had 259 yards on the ground and 62 through the air for 321 total yards.

Fairland (1-4) was limited to 110 yards rushing and just 2 passing. C. J. Stewart carried seven times for 32 yards and Camron Clark added 26 yards on seven tries for the Dragons.

The Marauders went 28 yards in four plays early in the game to lead 6-0. They went 37 yards in four plays late in the first quarter on a 17-yard run by Roush.

A 26-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Hannan to Buzz Fackler capped a 74-yard, six-play drive and it was 18-0 with 6:23 left in the half.

After recovering a fumble at the 1-yard line, Hannan hit Ross Stewart with a 1-yard pass on the next play. Brandon Ramsburg caught the conversion pass i t was 26-0.

Late in the third quarter, Roush shook free on a 57-yard touchdown run on the second play of the series and Fackler kicked the conversion for a 33-0 lead.

The Dragons host South Point next Friday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Northwest 49, South Point 14

SOUTH POINT -- Joe Schackart did it on land and through the air.

The Northwest quarterback ran 14 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns and also threw for two touchdowns as the Mohawks stunned the South Point Pointers 49-14 Friday night.

Tailback Derrick Pennington added 105 yards on 13 carries for the Mohawks.

South Point (1-4), which lost five fumbles on the night, took a 7-0 lead on a 24-yard touchdown run by Caleb Copley. Zane Joy's conversion kick made it 7-0 at the 5:23 mark.

But Schackart hit Ryan Hopper with a 76-yard touchdown pass and Mason Badbury kicked the extra point to tie the game.

Northwest took the lead with a 37-yard run by Pennington early in the second quarter.

A 19-yard TD pass from Schackart to Nic Pertuset upped the lead to 21-7, but South Point got within 21-14 at the half when the Pointers blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone.

After a scoring third quarter, the Mohawks erupted four four touchdown in the fourth quarter.

South Point plays at Fairland Friday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener.
