Vacant house in Ironton catches fire Saturday

The Ironton Fire Department battled a blaze on Buckhorn Street Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 1:23 p.m., the fire department received a call that a duplex at 610 and 612 Buckhorn St. was on fire, Captain Mike Mahlmeister said. The building was vacant.

While the fire department was on the scene, traffic was blocked in the area by the fire department and the Ironton Police Department. Southeastern Ohio Emergency Medical Services

and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.

Mahlmeister said the fire is still under investigation, but it appeared to start in an upstairs bedroom. Officials from the state fire marshal’s office will aid in the investigation, he said.

Ten Firefighters were at the fire and none of them were injured, Mahlmeister said.
