This one was over in a hurry.

The Gallipolis Blue Devils jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and coasted to a stunning 28-12 win over the previously unbeaten Portsmouth Trojans Friday night.

Gallipolis limited Portsmouth to 46 yards of total offense the first half while the Blue Devils tailback Ty Simmons ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns in building the big cushion. Simmons finished with 196 yards.

"Ty is a super-effort kid," Gallipolis coach Matt Bokovitz said. "His motor is always running. (To gain) 196 yards against a Portsmouth team, I've got to say this is pretty impressive."

Portsmouth (7-1) came into the game ranked second in the Associated Press Division IV poll and leading Region 15 of the computer ratings. Trojans head coach Curt Clifford offered no excuses.

"They just whipped us up front," Clifford said. "They blocked us on offense and we didn't block them very well when we were on offense. We just got handled up front.

"I guess the old coaching cliche is 'Oh well, we just didn't play well.' The reason we didn't play very well was because Gallipolis was kicking the snot out of us."

Gallipolis is now 7-1. The Blue Devils only loss was 17-12 to Ironton. Oddly, Portsmouth beat Ironton 25-7.

Portsmouth plays at Minford next Friday.

East 16, Green 0

FRANKLIN FURNACE -- The Sciotoville East Tartans used two touchdown passes by Brett Enz to get past the Green Bobcats 16-0 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Enz threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chris Peters in the second quarter to put East ahead 8-0. Enz hit Josh Hoskin with the conversion pass.

East scored its second touchdown in the third quarter when Enz passed 8 yards to Peters. The duo also clicked on the conversion for a 16-0 lead.

"We can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot," Green coach Dave Shoup said. "We have to be able to move the ball and not turn it over. But we played pretty well. Our defense played well. Turnovers hurt us.

Jimmy Moore ran 17 times for 85 yards to lead Green's offense. Greg McKenzie had eight tackles to pace the defense.

East is now 5-2 and 2-1 in the SOC. The Tartans must beat Symmes Valley next week to force the SOC into a three-way tie for first place.

Green dropped to 1-6 and 1-3.
