Cold third quarter proves costly to Redmen in loss

PEDRO -- The third quarter was the difference.

The Rock Hill Redmen went cold in the third quarter, and as a result lost 65-55 to the Lewis County (Ky.) Lions Saturday night in the first annual Ohio-Kentucky Challenge.

Rock Hill led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. David Schug scored 6 points the second quarter as the Redmen maintained their one-point lead at the half, 22-21.

But Nate Bond drained three 3-pointers the third quarter as the Lions outscored Rock Hill 20-9 to take a 41-31 lead.

Derrick Martin scored 12 points and Schug 8 more as Rock Hill tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Lions managed to hang on for the win.

Schug led Rock Hill with 20 points. Martin finished with 17 points and Ricki McDonie had 10 rebounds.

Tommy Barbour scored 14 points, and Tyler Clark and Bond 13 each for Lewis County.
