Morehead St. edges Thundering Herd 101-100 in OT

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Craig Lewis hit a free throw with 2.4 seconds left in overtime and Ricky Minard scored 35 points as Morehead State beat Marshall 101-100 Tuesday night.

Minard, who did not start due to undisclosed disciplinary reasons, hit a basket with 1:07 left in overtime to give Morehead (4-3) a 100-98 lead.

Ronald Blackshear pulled Marshall (4-2) even on a basket 13 seconds later but missed a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds. Lewis got the rebound and was fouled, setting up the winning shot.

Marshall inbounded the ball to A.W. Hamilton, who couldn't get a shot off before the buzzer.

Lewis scored 17 points, Chez Marks 14 and Kyle Hankins 10 for the Eagles.

Blackshear scored 23 points for Marshall, Marvin Black had 20, Ardo Ampalu added 18, and Monty Wright scored 14.

Minard scored 33 of his points in the final 14 minutes of regulation and overtime as Morehead rallied from a 22-point deficit.

The Thundering Herd appeared to be in control with a 71-49 lead on Black's 3-pointer with 11:51 remaining in the second half. But Marquis Sykes hit a 3-pointer from the wing to start Morehead's comeback.

Minard scored Morehead's next seven points. The Eagles took their first lead at 94-93 on Minard's shot from the lane with 3:25 left in overtime.
