Lawrence County officials plan to continue their efforts in the coming year to solve the issues of refuse collection

and of areas that remain without water service.

The commission late last week agreed to send a letter to The community Action Organization, asking officials there to help the county find funds to build at least one transfer station for solid waste.

"We need an area where people can take their trash and debris," Commission President George Patterson said. "We might need two." Patterson said the transfer stations would not be located in areas where they might irritate nearby residents. Instead he favors locating them in an out of the way place that would still be accessible for county residents.

The commission also agreed to ask CAO officials for their help in finding grant monies to pay for

the cost of extending water lines to unserved areas of the county. Letters will also be sent to water companies to see what assistance they might give in the matter.
