County grand jury hands down 17 indictments

A Lawrence County Grand Jury handed down 17 indictments last week, seven of which were secret indictments.

-- Christopher L. Moody, 18, of 300 N. Seventh St., Ironton, was indicted on one third-degree felony count of gross sexual imposition. Moody allegedly had unlawful sexual contact with a boy under the age of 13 at a house in Ironton on Dec. 26, 2002.

-- James N. Berry, 27, of 4317 U.S. 60 West, Grayson, Ky., was indicted on two counts of grand theft, both fourth-degree felonies. The incidents allegedly took place Oct. 13 and Oct. 21, 2002.

-- Grady Smith Jr., 23, of 825 Marion Pike, Coal Grove was indicted on one count of second-degree felonious assault and one count of first-degree felony burglary. He allegedly went to a house in Coal Grove on Dec. 16, 2002 and started a fight with the occupant of that house. Authorities say Smith smashed a can of beer into the face of the person who answered the door and then forced his way into the house.

Walter G. Plumley, 25, of 122 Private Drive, Proctorville, was indicted on a single count of deception to obtain a dangerous drug, a fourth-degree felony. Plumley is accused of trying to pass an altered prescription for hydrocodone at an area pharmacy on Dec. 20, 2002.

-- Frances Lewis, 18, 1509 South Fourth St., Ironton, was indicted on one count of second-degree felonious assault, fifth-degree felony vandalism, and on one count of assault on a peace officer. Lewis allegedly assaulted an Ironton man with a hammer during an incident on Dec. 23, 2002. She is also accused of standing on an Ironton street corner on Dec. 28, 2002 and throwing objects at passing cars. When a South East Ohio Emergency Medical Services squad arrived to dispense medical care for her, Lewis allegedly vandalized the squad vehicle. She is also accused of assaulting an officer while she was being booked at the Lawrence County jail.

-- Crystal D. Pauley, 23, 653 Lick Creek Road, South Point, was indicted on a fifth-degree felony theft charge. She is accused of unlawfully taking money from the Ironton Speedway convenience store while she was employed there between Sept. 1 and Oct. 2, 2002.

-- David M. Adkins, 28, 523 State Route 98, South Point, was indicted on a single count of fifth-degree felony forgery. He is accused of taking a workers' compensation check on June 10, 2002.

-- Richard Dansby, 45, Wellston, was indicted on a single count of driving while intoxicated, a fourth-degree felony. He was arrested on Dec. 15, 2002.

-- David L. Barrow, 24, 401 S. Eighth St., Ironton, was indicted on one count of assault on a police officer; his girlfriend, Meghan Boggs, 22, 1045 Fourth St. East, South Point, was arrested on one count of obstructing officials police business. Authorities say

Barrow became involved in a fight at Shenanigan's in downtown Ironton on Sept. 22, 2002. During the incident, Barrow allegedly assaulted an Ironton police officer who responded to the call at the establishment. Boggs allegedly tried to interfere with authorities while her boyfriend was being arrested.

The grand jury met Thursday and Friday of last week. Members chose not to return indictments in two cases.
