This time, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers did not sleep in.

Getting off to a rare fast start, Ironton coasted past the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 76-20 Wednesday.

"We got off to a fast start. Sometimes we don't get going until the second half, so that was a positive," Ironton coach Amy Hughes said. "We stayed focused for the most part, except for the second quarter."

Ironton, now 12-3, was led by Ashley Hannon with 21 points and eight assists while Rachel Wylie had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Andrea Rudmann added 14 points, Candace Ferguson had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Sara Hacker had 8 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals.

"Ashley and Rachel played well. It was nice to see them get their offense going," Ironton coach Amy Hughes said. "Hannon was a spark defensively. When she's active and aggressive, the rest of the team follows her lead."

Wylie had all 10 of her points the first quarter as Ironton raced to a 28-2 lead. Hannon got 9 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 37-8.

Ironton increased its lead by outscoring the Lady Hornets 21-5 in the fourth quarter.

Hughes was pleased with the effort of her younger players off the bench. Danielle Henderson, Sara Cartmell and Tenneille Young grabbed five rebounds each.

"It was nice to see the younger kids not only get to play, but contribute," Hughes said.

Ironton plays at Fairland on Saturday.
