Charges have been filed against the director of the Lawrence County Alternative School in connection with allegations that he slapped and harassed a student. The incident allegedly took place in December 2002 at the school.

Michael Vavra is facing one count each of assault and menacing. The charges were filed earlier this month by the Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office. He is scheduled for arraignment in Ironton Municipal Court Monday.

The Ironton Tribune attempted to contact Lawrence County School Superintendent Harold Shafer for comment on the matter. He was unavailable at press time.
