Ball St. rips Herd, 96-75

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Chris Williams scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half and Cameron Echols had a career high with 25 points as Ball State beat Marshall 96-75 Tuesday night.

Williams scored 11 in a 22-9 run as the Cardinals (8-10, 3-5 Mid American Conference) took a 84-59 advantage with just under seven minutes remaining.

Ball State's Robert Owens also had a career high with 17 points. Matt McCollom added 20 points, Kevin Cates had five assists and a career-high 14 rebounds, and Echols also had 15 rebounds.

Echols, Owens and McCollom combined to help the Cardinals jump out to a 20-8 lead over Marshall (9-7, 5-3), who never led. Although the Thundering Herd made 31-of-37 free throws, they shot only 40 percent from the field and 15 percent from 3-point range.

Ball State, meanwhile, hit 10-of-19 3-pointers with McCollom hitting 4-of-4. The Cardinals also outrebounded Marshall by 18 and had 18 more second-chance points.

Marvin Black scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds for Marshall.
