No surprises as boys cage pairings set

No real surprises this time.

The coaches voting in the boys' sectional tournaments Sunday went as expected as teams set up the postseason schedule.

Chesapeake (15-1) was the top seed in the Division III sectional at the University of Rio Grande. Wheelersburg (11-4) was second-seeded and Ironton (13-3) took the No. 3 seed.

In bracket one, Alexander (7-10) plays Minford (6-9) at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, with the winner going against Chesapeake at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.

In bracket two, South Point (3-12) faces No. 4 Wellston (11-5) at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 17 followed by No. 5 Fairland (9-7) and Oak Hill (2-13). Those winners meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.

Belpre (7-8) and Nelsonville-York (3-13) play at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, with the winner going against Wheelersburg at 3 p.m. Feb. 22 in the third bracket.

The bottom bracket has Ironton playing Coal Grove (1-15) at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, followed by Federal Hocking (9-6) and Crooksville (3-13) at 8 p.m. The two winners square off at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

All four bracket champions advance to the district tournament.

Rock Hill (8-8) earned the No. 6 seed in Division II and will play No. 3 Jackson (9-7) at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Wellston High School. Second seeded Vinton County (12-4) and Vincent Warren (6-10) will play

at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 18.

The two winners meet in the sectional title game at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 with the bracket champion advancing to the district.

Symmes Valley earned the top seed in the Division IV sectional at Vinton County High School.

The Vikings (12-4) played in the finals at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 22. Their opponent will be the winner of the South Gallia (6-10) and Trimble (5-11) game set for 6:15 p.m. Feb. 18.

The St. Joseph Flyers (7-8) were the sixth seed and play No. 3 seed Reedsville Eastern (11-6) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 22. The winner advances to the district.

The second bracket has Hemlock Miller (5-8) playing Beaver Eastern (3-12) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 18. The winner faces No. 2 seed Racine Southern (11-5) at 8 p.m. Feb. 22. The winner goes to the district.

South Webster (10-5) meets Waterford (5-6) at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 21 in the third bracket with the winner advancing.

The Green Bobcats (11-3) were the second seed in the Division IV sectional at Lucasville Valley.

Western Pike (5-11) plays Leesburg Fairfield (6-10) at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 with the winner meeting Green at 8 p.m. Feb. 22. The winner advances to the district.
