HAVERHILL - Matt Barnard must not have wanted to work too long, so he didn't.

Barnard made quick work of St. Joseph Tuesday as he pitched a five-inning no-hitter to blank the Flyers 16-0.

Cutting the game short, Barnard threw only 59 pitches over five innings. He missed a perfect game when he issued a one-out walk on a 3-2 pitch in the fourth inning.

"That's the best I've seen him throw in a long time. He had great command of his pitches. He threw mostly fastballs and changups, but he moved his fastball around and did a real good job," Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.

Besides Barnard's effort, the Redmen banged out 18 hits led by Kyle Lewis who was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Barnard helped his own cause by going 3-3 with a double. David Schug was 2-4 with a double, K. C. Christian went 2-3 and Nathan Litteral 2-5.

Coach Litteral was pleased with the defense, too.

"We played good defense behind (Barnard). Sam Lewis made several good plays. Offensively, we put the ball in play and made them field it. We just did a lot of things right," coach Litteral said.

The Redmen got all the runs they needed with two out in the first.

Nathan Litteral singled, stole second, Aaron Miller walked, and a double play sent Litteral to third. Kyle Lewis was safe on an error as a run scored. Barnard then doubled home Lewis.

The lead went to 6-0 in the third.

With one out in the third, Schug doubled and Lewis singled. Lewis stole second, and Barnard and Christian singled. Sean Primm then grounded out as a run scored and Nathan Wagner had an RBI single.

Rock Hill put the game out of reach with a 10-run fourth inning.

Miller singled and came around to score on a throwing error. Kyle Lewis then slugged a home run.

Barnard walked, K. C. Christian singled. A passed ball sent Christian to second and Primm had an RBI single.

Sam Lewis then tripled in a run, and Nathan Little singled home another run.

Miller walked, Schug had an RBI single. Kyle Lewis singled in two runs and Barnard's base hit scored Kyle Lewis.
