The girls are ready to begin.

Local girls' high school track teams will begin their season in earnest as the Ironton Invitational will

begin at 5 p.m. today.

Host Ironton will be joined by Coal Grove, Chesapeake, Rock Hill, South Point and Fairland. South Webster and Portsmouth will join the local teams.

Fairland won its Early Bird Relays last week and that success could carry over to the Ironton meet.

"We're expecting a good meet," Ironton coach Tim Thomas said.
