A former Ironton resident sentenced earlier this year to federal prison for his part in a drug scheme has been indicted by a Lawrence County Grand Jury on an assault charge.

Lawrence D. Jenkins, 40, formerly of Ironton, was indicted on one count of felonious assault. This stems from an altercation outside a bar in downtown Ironton Nov. 3, 2002, during which a woman was injured. Jenkins is currently serving 12 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug charges.

Jenkins was arrested in July 2002 along with former physician Randall McCollister, but was released on bond until the resolution of the case. He was sentenced last month on the federal charges and now faces state drug charges in connection with the McCollister case.
