AID -- When the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings put things together, they usually add up to a win.

The Lady Vikings combined four hits, eight walks and three errors to beat the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers 5-0 in a key Southern Ohio Conference game Monday.

"It as a good game. Both teams played well. Lori threw well and kept the ball down, and she had excellent defense behind her. Clay's young and aggressive with the bats, so we had to make plays and we did," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.

"But we only had one strikeout, so we put the ball in play. We were able to capitalize on their mistakes."

Lori Harmon fired a two-hitter as she went the distance to get the win. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Kayla Bowman got half the Vikes hits as she went 2-for-4.

The Vikings got three runs in the first inning.

Cassie Myers, Stephanie Burns and Tommie Holbrook all walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Myers and Bowman followed with a two-run single.

A run scored in the second to make it 4-0.

Jodi Black and Ginny Young were each hit by pitches, Myers put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, and Harmon grounded out as Black scored.

The final run scored in the third inning.

Holbrook was safe on an error, Bowman reached on a fielder's choice, Rebecca Capper was safe on an error, and Bowman scored when Erin Martin reached on an error.

Symmes Valley, 8-2 and 6-0 in the SOC, hosts Fairland Tuesday.
