Kevin Williams couldn't give up hits, and his teammates couldn't help but get them.

Williams fired a one-hitter and the Fighting Tigers banged out 15 hits including seven for extra bases as Ironton downed the Rock Hill Redmen 16-0 in five innings Monday.

"Williams threw the ball well. He had a little pop on the ball today," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "And we hit the ball up and down the lineup."

Josh Sands led the onslaught as he went 2-for-4 and drove in six runs as he had a two-run double and a grand slam home run.

Greg Mountain came off the bench to hit a 3-run homer. Matt White and Tyler Whaley were 2-3 with two RBI, Derek Moore, Nick Collins and Williams were all 2-3, and Chris Collins 1-2.

Williams struck out seven and walked two as he evened his record at 1-1. Matt Wilson doubled with one out in the fifth inning for the lone Rock Hill hit.

Ironton (7-6) scored seven runs in the second inning. Williams doubled in a run, Whaley singled in one run, and White and Sands had two-run doubles.

The Fighting Tigers came right back with nine runs in the third.

Whaley walked with the bases loaded to force in a run, a wild pitch scored another, and then Sands belted his grand slam. Jeff Parnell was hit by a pitch, Nick Collins singled, and Mountain unloaded his three-run shot to cap the scoring.

"Ironton just hit the ball. That's all you can said," Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.

Ironton plays at South Point at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, then plays at Russell under the lights.
