Chaffins#039; one-hitter leads Redwomen over Lady Pointers

PEDRO - Cassy Chaffins came thisclose to pitching a no-hitter.

Chaffins gave up a two-out infield base hit in the seventh inning to Summer Malone for the only hit she allowed, but still came away with a shutout as the Rock Hill Redwomen blanked the South Point Lady Pointers 4-0 Wednesday.

Chaffins struck out three and walked just one as she shut down the Lady Pointers in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Marie Bamer, Keshia Rupp and Chaffins all went 2-3 to key an 8-hit attack for the Redwomen.

Rock Hill went ahead 1-0 in the first inning when Bamer singled, stole second and scored on Rupp's base hit.

The Redwomen added a run in the third inning.

Rupp singled, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball.

Rock Hill added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning.

Marie Bamer singled, Monica Bamer was safe on an error, both moved up on a passed ball, and Melissa McFann had a two-run single.

Rock Hill (6-4, 3-2 OVC) hosts South Gallia Thursday.

The Redwomen beat Green 17-2 on Tuesday.
