PROCTORVILLE - In the case of Michael Hill and Cory McKnight, age doesn't matter.

The Fairland sophomore baseball players teamed up to lead the Dragons to an 8-2 Ohio Valley Conference win over the River Valley Raiders Wednesday.

Hill went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five runs batted in while McKnight struck out 10 and pitched a four-hitter.

"Our young kids are doing a good job," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.

The win enabled the Dragons to improve to 9-3 overall and tie Coal Grove and Chesapeake atop the league at 3-1.

"To get back even is where we want to be. With Chesapeake coming up, that will be a big ball game," Snyder said.

Fairland hosts Chesapeake Friday.

Hill hit a solo home run in the first inning to put Fairland ahead.

The Dragons came back to score five more in the second inning.

Josh Moore and Bo Adams singled, Matt Rowe was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Adam Fuller singled in a pair of runs, and Hill unloaded a three-run homer for a 6-0 lead.

The Raiders scored a run in the third, but Fairland got the run back in the fourth when Hill walked, stole second, and came home on Matt Clark's base hit.

Each team got a run in the sixth.

After the Raiders got a run in the top of the inning to get within 7-2, Fairland came back to score in the bottom of the frame.

McKnight singled, stole second, and ran home on Hill's base hit for the Dragons final run.

Adams went 2-3 and Fuller, just a freshman, went 1-3 and had three RBI as Fairland collected nine hits.
