Bazell#039;s home run gives Hornets win

PEDRO -- Nick Bazell likes to help Tommy Pemberton.

For the second time this season, Bazell homered to give Pemberton a win as the Coal Grove Hornets edged the Rock Hill Redmen 2-1 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

With one out in the sixth, Bazell hit a 1-2 fastball for a home run to decide the game.

"It was a good pitch, he just went down and got it," Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral said.

Pemberton struck out 16 and walked two while allowing five hits. Matt Barnard pitched a four-hitter for Rock Hill.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning.

Luke Tackett reached on a one-out error, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored when Matt Winters was safe on an error.

Rock Hill answered in the bottom of the inning when Dave Schug doubled to start the inning, moved up on an error, and scored on a bunt single by K. C. Christian.

Coal Grove's Tim Elliott went 2-3. Christian also went 2-3.

On Monday, Rock Hill (5-8, 4-4 OVC) plays at Chesapeake while Coal Grove (5-7, 4-1) is at River Valley.
