Fairland rolls past Chesy

CHESAPEAKE - It was a day to hit and catch.

The Fairland Dragons collected 13 hits and had only two harmless errors as they beat the Chesapeake Panthers 11-1 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"We hit a lot of good, clean shots, and we played some defense today," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.

Fairland is now 12-3 and atop the OVC at 6-1, one-half game ahead of Coal Grove. The Dragons play at Coal Grove Wednesday.

Michael Hill went six innings for the win. He struck out 10, walked three and allowed four hits. Josh Moore finished up.

"Michael wasn't real sharp the first inning, but he settled down and pitched well," Snyder said.

Zacc Russell went 3-5 with a double and four runs batted in to lead the Dragons. Moore was 3-5 with three RBI and a double, and Andy Pittman was 2-4.

Fairland went ahead 3-0 in the first inning.

With one out, Hill singled, stole second, and came home on a hit by Russell. Moore and Pittman singled for a run and Bo Adams doubled in the final run.

Chesapeake got its run in the bottom of the inning when P. J. Rase singled, stole second, and scored on Todd Marcum's double.

The Dragons came right back with three more runs in the second to lead 6-1.

Hill reached on a two-out error, stole second and scored when Clark was safe on a throwing error. Russell doubled home a run and Moore had an RBI single.

Fairland added a run in the third when Adams was safe on an error, Matt Rowe sacrificed him to second, a passed ball sent the runner to third, and Adam Fuller scored the run with a squeeze bunt.

The Dragons put the game away with four runs in the seventh.

Nolan Love walked, Fuller was hit by a pitch, Cory McKnight hit into a fielder's choice, Hill walked to load the bases, and Russell singled home two runs.

Moore followed with a two-run double to cap the scoring.

Chesapeake falls to 6-7 and 4-3 in the league.
