ROME TOWNSHIP - Two children who were attacked by a dog in Rome Township Friday afternoon remain at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
The 3-year-old boy remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the hospital. His 4-year-old sister is listed in stable condition in the pediatrics unit.
Lawrence County authorities said Monday that charges could be filed in connection with the incident, and that the investigation into what happened continues. The dog, a shepherd/wolf mix, is being kept at the Lawrence County dog pound pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities said the two children were playing on a swing set in a yard at a residence on Big Paddy Creek Road when the incident occurred. It is not known who owns the dog or what caused the dog to attack the children.
