Fairland LL All-Stars win district crown
PROCTORVILLE - A perfect run gave the Fairland Little League All-Stars a chance to run some more.
Fairland won the 11-12-year-old District 11 Little League championship Monday with an 11-5 win over Wheelersburg, thus earning a berth in the state tournament.
The win capped a perfect run through the district tournament. Fairland blanked Northwest 10-0, beat Chillicothe 5-3, routed Wheelersburg 12-1 and South Point 13-1.
Wheelersburg won the loser's bracket and needed to win twice in order to take the district title. Fairland erased Wheelersburg's hopes with its fifth straight victory.
Ethan Long drove in two runs with a single and picked up the win as Fairland downed Wheelersburg in the championship game. Michael Lamb and Robbie Easterling each belted solo home runs to bolster the offensive attack.
Long fired a no-hitter in the first Wheelersburg game.
The Fairland all-stars will face Dayton, the District 3 representative, in the double elimination tournament. The double elimination state tournament will be held July 23-29 near Cleveland in Jefferson.
