Local authorities arrest federal fugitive

A man wanted by Huntington, W.Va., authorities is behind bars at the Lawrence County Jail today, the subject of a multi-agency arrest effort in downtown Ironton Tuesday morning.
Keith M. Jessie, 27, thought to be from Detroit, was wanted on a federal fugitive from justice warrant after he failed to appear in court in Cabell County, W.Va., in connection with armed robbery and possession of cocaine charges there.
"We received information Monday of a federal fugitive that was supposed to be in Ironton and we began an investigation based on this information," Ironton Police detective, Capt. Chris Bowman said. "The subject was taken into custody without incident."
Jessie had reportedly been staying at a residence on Lawrence Street. He was apprehended by authorities at the intersection of Eighth Street and Park Avenue just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
In addition to the Ironton Police Department, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Marshal's Service, Huntington, W.Va., Police Department, Cabell County, W.Va., Sheriff's Office
and the FBI participated in the investigation.
