PINE GROVE - Now, that's a little better.

After getting off to a bad start on Monday, the Ironton Fighting Tigers golf team bounced back Thursday with a better team performance in beating the Meigs Marauders 329 to 350 at the Ironton Country Club.

Dennis Gagai fired a 74 to take medalist honors as Ironton improved to 5-1 on the season.

Seth Christian turned in a solid effort with a 78 for Ironton, Nick Boggess shot an 84, and Justin Gillum carded a 93.

"Gagai and Christian both played well and they're both young kids," Ironton coach Jeff Kerns said. "Boggess played better and Gillum is just starting to get his stroke back. He's had a bad ankle all summer and hasn't been able to play. He had a 40 on the back nine."

The Fighting Tigers were second in their own invitational on Monday with a 338 team score.

Chesapeake won the match with a 315 team score behind scores of 77 by Phillip Butcher and Trent Finley.

Gagai again took medalist honors with a 3-over par 73. Christian and Boggess each carded an 87 and Gillum shot a 91.

South Point was third with a 355 as Tyler Stapleton shot an 83 and Caleb Copley an 83.

Portsmouth was next with a 368 followed by Fairland at 373 and Rock Hill had a 387.
