Decatur Township Trustee Ralph E. Cox was laid to rest today, four days after succumbing to what family members said was a massive heart attack, probably caused of heat and overexertion.

Meanwhile, his brother, Decatur Township Trustee Garold Cox, continues to recover after falling ill Sunday.

Bernie Cox, brother to the two men, said the trustees had been operating chip-and-seal equipment Saturday when Ralph Cox collapsed.

"He got too hot, that was the main reason for it," Bernie Cox said. "Everyone said he was running the tar truck -- it's the hottest job you can get -- and he'd go back and forth from it to the roller. Everyone tried to get them to quit, but they said they couldn't quit 'til they used all the tar."

Bernie Cox said the family is awaiting test results to determine what caused Garold Cox to fall ill. Garold Cox was released Monday evening from King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

"It's hard to take," Bernie Cox said of Ralph Cox's death. "If he had lived until November, he would have been 44 years old. It's a bad situation. He liked people, wanted to help people and he wanted Decatur to have good roads."

The funeral was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home. Burial followed in Buckhorn Cemetery.
