BEREA -- Quarterback Nate Hybl, who led Oklahoma to a win in the Rose Bowl last season, was one of six players cut Tuesday by the Cleveland Browns.

Hybl, who signed as an undrafted free agent in May, was waived along with wide receivers Richard Alston and Antoine Burns, defensive lineman Corey Jackson, tight end Jeff Kostrewa and offensive lineman Chad Ward.

In addition, the Browns placed defensive lineman Israel Idonije on the reserve-injured list. Idonije hurt his ankle during training camp.

Hybl was unable to beat out Josh Booty as Cleveland's third string QB, but he may still be added to the Browns' practice squad.

As a senior last season, Hybl closed out his career by throwing two touchdowns to lead the Sooners to a 34-14 win over Washington State in the Rose Bowl.

The release of Alston and Burns could mean that wide receiver C.J. Jones, an undrafted free agent from Iowa, will make Cleveland's roster.

Jones has impressed the Browns with his versatility during training camp and the exhibition season. Last week, he returned a kickoff 78 yards to set up his 17-yard TD reception from Tim Couch.
