DECATUR TOWNSHIP --
On Wednesday night, Decatur Township's two remaining trustees chose the widow of the late Ralph Cox to fill the vacancy on that governing body until the November election.
Decatur Township trustee Garold Cox, who was Ralph Cox's brother, said his sister-in-law was a logical choice for that seat.
"I think it was what Ralph would have wanted. If anything would have happened to me, I think he would have done the same thing. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do," Garold Cox said of the move to name his brother's replacement.
Patty Cox will fill in on an interim basis until the November election is certified and she is elected to fill in the remaining two years and four months of her late husband's term. She is the only candidate who filed for the seat.
Ralph Cox collapsed and died Aug. 16 while working with Garold Cox on a township road.
