Alleged armed robber waives extradition

A Coal Grove man arrested last Sunday and charged in connection with the holdup of an Ashland, Ky., gas station is now in the bluegrass state to face charges there in connection with that incident.

Michael Bazell, 26, waived extradition Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to an Ohio charge of fleeing and eluding a police officer.

Judge O. Clark Collins sentenced him to 90 days in jail, and suspended 86 days. He was also given credit for time served in jail awaiting an appearance in court.

He was taken Friday to the Boyd County Jail in Catlettsburg to face a charge of first-degree armed robbery in Boyd County, Ky.

Bazell is accused of driving the getaway car Aug. 31 when another man, Joshua Joyce, of Flatwoods, Ky., held up the Marathon gas station at 18th Street and Winchester Avenue in Ashland.

They were apprehended a short time later at a residence on Rowe Street in Coal Grove.
