A man was transported to an Ashland, Ky., hospital Sunday night after a one-vehicle accident that heavily damaged a full-size pickup truck.

Ironton Police Department officer Pam Neal said the man was driving a blue late-model Dodge Ram extended cab pickup truck southbound on South Third Street when he apparently lost control of the truck. The police department received the call at 8:42 p.m.

The truck struck a utility pole and then struck a utility box near the Ice Creek Bridge and the Coal Grove corporation line. Neal said the Coal Grove Police Department arrived at the scene first and stood by until other law enforcement officials arrived. Members of

Ironton Fire Department used the jaws of life to free the victim, who was transported by Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Services to King's Daughters Medical Center.

The name of the victim was unavailable at presstime. No passengers were in the truck.

Neal said the utility companies such as Ameritech, Adelphia and AEP had been notified of the crash because of the damage to the utility box and pole.
