COAL GROVE- An Ironton man escaped injury yesterday when the pickup truck he was driving crashed on State Route 243 at Zoar Hill.

Coal Grove Police Sgt. Jason Bloomfield said Eddie Gear, 45, apparently lost control of his vehicle while traveling north on that roadway. His truck crossed the center line and struck an embankment, coming to rest on its top partly on the hillside and partly in the ditch.

Bloomfield said Gear was treated at the scene by SEOEMS. He was also cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

Also yesterday, four people escaped serious injury earlier in the day in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Marion Pike and Carlton-Davidson Lane. Bloomfield said Tracy Webb of Chesapeake was attempting to turn left onto Carlton-Davidson Lane when she was struck in the rear by a car driven by Hazel McDonald, also of Chesapeake. Bloomfield said Webb's infant daughter, who was riding in the back seat of her mother's car, was taken to King's Daughters Medical Center for observation. A juvenile passenger in McDonald's car was not injured. McDonald was cited for failure to maintain assured cleared distance.
