SAN DIEGO - San Diego Chargers rookie linebacker Matt Wilhelm, a former Ohio State standout, has been arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, general manager A.J. Smith confirmed Tuesday.
Wilhelm, 22, inactive for the first two games, missed Monday's practice while incarcerated, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday. Workouts are closed and Wilhelm's absence was not disclosed by the team, the newspaper said.
A message left for a team spokesman was not immediately returned.
Circumstances of Wilhelm's arrest on Sunday and details on his bail and arraignment were not immediately available.
A San Diego County jail operator would only confirm that Wilhelm was released Monday but said that by law she could not give any other information such as whether Wilhelm was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Wilhelm is the second Charger in the past four weeks to be arrested.
