LAVALETTE, W.Va. - This time, there was no upset winner.
The Chesapeake Panthers were the favorites to win the Ohio Valley Conference golf championship last year, but the Fairland Dragons pulled off the upset win.
Chesapeake was favored again this year, only this time the Panthers left little doubt that they gained their revenge in claiming the league title.
The Panthers posted a 318 team total to finish 23 strokes ahead of runner-up Fairland Thursday in the OVC Tournament at Sugarcreek Golf Course. South Point was third at 351 followed by River Valley at 388 and Rock Hill had a 404.
P.J. Rase led the Panthers with a 76 as he tied Fairland's Brent Kidd for the low score. Rase then claimed medalist honors when he shot par on the first playoff hole while Kidd had a bogey.
Phillip Butcher and Chris Hansford shot 77 and 80, respectively, and joined Rase to give the Panthers three players on the All-OVC team.
South Point's Tyler Stapleton had a 78 and River Valley's Randy Sharrett shot an 80 to earn all-league honors along with Kidd and the Chesapeake trio.
