An Ironton woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly tried to use stolen checks to make purchases.
Barbara Mollett, 43, of 294 1/2 Vernon St., is charged with two counts of forgery.
Ironton Police detective Jim Akers said a local woman reported late last week that her purse had been stolen from her car while it was parked near Illusions bar on Fourth Street.
On Wednesday, police were notified that a woman came into Big Lots on Second Street and allegedly had checks belonging to the victim. The woman was caught on the store's video tape. When Mollett allegedly came back to the store Thursday, store employees called police.
Officers Shawn Rawlins and Beth Rist and Capt. Jim Carey also arrested Mollett's son, who accompanied his mother to the store. William Mollett, 21, also of 204 1/2 Vernon St., was picked up on an outstanding warrant.
Akers said Barbara Mollett could face additional charges in this incident.
