No sign of body in Symmes Creek

CHESAPEAKE - Police and fire department personnel resumed searching Symmes Creek Tuesday morning after what was reported as a human body was spotted in the water late Monday night.

Approximately 10 emergency workers searched the waters at the Symmes Creek Boat Ramp for nearly two hours Monday night before calling the search off at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. They resumed the search in the daylight near where Symmes Creek connects to the Ohio River.

A Huntington, W.Va., man was fishing with his family Monday when he pulled something up that he believed was a human body. He panicked and broke his fishing line.

He called the police immediately.

As of Tuesday morning, only the corpse of a small deer had been found near where the man was fishing and that may have been what he saw, according to one village employee.

Workers were still searching the water as of press time.
