ATHENS - A big fullback was the biggest factor.

Shenandoah's 5-foot-11, 200-pound fullback Roman Barnett pounded the Wheelersburg Pirates defense for 108 yards and four touchdowns and help produce a 28-14 win in the Division V Region 19 semifinals Friday at Athens High School.

The loss ended the Pirates playoff run as they closed out the season with a 9-3 record.

Shenandoah used two fourth quarter touchdowns to snap a 14-14 tie.

A Pirates fumble set up a 2-yard scoring run by Barnett to start the fourth quarter, the Pirates faked a fourth down punt in their own territory but failed to convert. Shenandoah then drove for an insurance touchdown as Barnett rammed into the end zone from 3 yards out with 2:30 to play.

Keith Selock passed to Jacob Zerkle for the conversion to set the final score.

Tom Kaskey scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 1-yard run with just 42 seconds left in the first quarter to give Wheelersburg the lead. Matt Ruggles kicked the extra point and it was 7-0.

The Zeps came back to take a 14-7 halftime lead on a pair of 4-yard runs by Barnett in the second quarter.

The Pirates tied the game midway through the third quarter on a 2-yard keeper by Kaskey and Ruggles' conversion kick.

Kaskey provided almost all of the Pirates offense. He ran 26 times for 88 yards and hit 3-of-9 passes for 50 yards. Nathan Timberlake added 36 yards on eight carries while Ruggles carried seven times for 33 yards.

Selock completed 7-of-11 passes for 122 yards as the Zeps piled up 250 total yards.

Shenandoah, 12-0, will play Amanda-Clearcreek next Friday in the regional finals. The Aces routed Woodsfield Monroe 28-7 in the other regional semifinal game.
