Bad roads get attention of commission

Road repairs do not fall under the authority of the Lawrence County Commission, but if you ask the three men who hold those commission seats, they will likely tell you they hear about it and talk about it very frequently.

The commission Monday agreed to ask Lawrence County Engineer David Lynd to make

Little Pine and White Oak roads in Elizabeth Township a high priority for repairs.

Commission President George Patterson said Elizabeth Township trustees contacted him recently about the condition of the roads. The trustees fear that without immediate attention, the roads that are already bad

will be made worse by the bad weather that is rapidly approaching.

"Those roads are terrible," Patterson said. "They've asked us to see what could be done. They would like something done before bad weather sets in, because that will only make matters worse. I've driven on those roads myself and I know what bad shape they're in. We know the engineer is busy, but we needed to bring it to his attention."
