"We wanted to use our size advantage and we did that," Ironton coach Amy Hughes said. "I thought we played harder and did a better job, for the most part, on defense. We still have a long way to go, but we showed some improvement."

The tandem of Andrea Rudmann and Sara Hacker combined for 53 points and 20 rebounds. Rudmann had a game-high 30 points to go with 11 rebounds. Hacker had 23 points, nine rebounds, three steals and five assists.

Danielle Henderson pulled down 11 rebounds and also had three steals and three assists. Backup center Teneille Young had 10 rebounds.

"We shot the ball well in spots. We're still not finishing when we get the ball inside or get an offensive rebound. But that will come," Hughes said.

Brianna Davis scored 21 points and had six rebounds to lead Fairland (0-2). Megan Fisher added 17 points while Kara Riley had eight rebounds.

"I thought we played hard and we hung in there, we're just so small. They beat us to death on the boards. They're a good team," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said.

The Lady Fighting Tigers jumped in front 17-5 as Rudmann hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hacker scored five points. But Fairland closed the quarter with an 8-0 run and trailed just 17-13.

A 15-footer and two foul shots by Shea Berry gave Fairland its only lead of the game at 20-19 with 5:35 left in the half. Young followed up a missed shot to put Ironton back on top for good at the 4:56 mark and the Lady Tigers put up 11 unanswered points to lead 30-20.

Hacker made two foul shots for a 36-25 lead only to have Davis nail a baseline jumper with six seconds left in the half to make it 36-27 at the half.

Davis scored to cut the deficit to 46-39 late in the third quarter, but Rudmann took over with a foul shot, a 3-pointer and a 17-footer with five seconds on the clock to push Ironton's lead to 52-39.

Rudmann and Hacker had eight points each in the fourth quarter and Ironton outrebounded Fairland 19-8 in the quarter to win going away.

In the reserve game, Ironton won 25-24 as Tenielle Young scored 13 points, including the winning basket. Ciara Taylor added six points.
