A South Point juvenile accused of holding up two pizza shops at gunpoint will stand trial as an adult.
Jonathon Hudnall Jr., of 309 High St., who will turn 17 years of age Sunday, was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery. Hudnall is accused of being the gunman who held up Judy's Giovanni's on State Route 243 in Perry Township Aug. 26, and the Giovanni's at Aid two days later.
"There have only been a couple of cases in the time I've been prosecutor, starting on my 12th year, that we have had juveniles tried as adults," Collier said. "There are a lot of protections in place for juveniles. Seldom do we have situations where they are tried as adults. But this is a serious offense."
In order for a juvenile to be tried as an adult, a juvenile court judge must determine that there is a basis for the charges against the minor. Collier said the seriousness of the charges, Hudnall's age and the fact that Hudnall allegedly used a gun in the robberies were all factors in the move from juvenile to adult court.
Two other men allegedly involved in the robberies were indicted last month.
A Lawrence County grand jury also indicted a Hamilton Township man in connection with a double shooting last month. Daniel J. Blankenship, 59, of 1398 Old U.S. 52, Ironton, was indicted on two counts of felonious assault and one count of attempt to commit felonious assault. Blankenship was arrested in the evening hours of Nov. 10 after a shooting incident near his residence. A 43-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son were injured.
