Lady Hornets stay unbeaten

LUCASVILLE - Hornets Five-0. Book it, Dano.

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets ran their record to 5-0 Tuesday with a 32-31 win over the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians.

Coal Grove used some clutch foul shooting to get the win and remain unbeaten. The Lady Hornets converted 16 of 27 attempts.

Chelsea Markins had eight points, Tracy Tackett seven, Samantha Hall six and Maggie Young five to lead a balanced offense.

Amy Nordam scored 14 points to pace Valley.

The Lady Hornets took a 10-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to 6 of 8 shooting from the line. They were 6 of 11 in the second quarter and it was 20-14 at the half.

The lead was 27-19 after three quarters, but Valley made a comeback in the fourth quarter. Markins had the only Coal Grove field goal in the quarter and the Lady Hornets were just 3 of 7 from the line. Nordam scored six of her points in the quarter for Valley.

Coal Grove hosts Portsmouth Clay Saturday and plays at Symmes Valley next Tuesday as the girls and boys play in varsity and reserve games beginning at 2 p.m.
