CHARLESTON, W.Va. - When things were looking dark, coach Mark Lafon looked for a source of light.

Lafon found that needed light source on his bench as the South Point Pointers battled through a sluggish performance to beat Cross Lanes Christian 60-57 Tuesday.

The Pointers coach wasn't pleased with most of the team's performance, but he did have some praise Quentin Smith, J.T. Terry, Tyler Staton and Zane Joy.

"We didn't play well, although Quentin, Terry, Joy and Staton all gave us some energy," Lafon said. "Everybody got a little bit of something offensively."

Despite 10 turnovers in the first quarter, the Pointers still managed to take a 12-8 lead. South Point extended its lead to 33-20 at the half.

Smith scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half and Caleb Copley and Joy made two foul shots each down the stretch to seal the win.

Smith was the only South Point player in double figures. Aaron Quinn had eight points while Seth Craft, Staton and Joy scored seven points each.

Justin Workman and Smith grabbed five rebounds apiece. Quinn handed out five assists.

Adam Walker scored a game-high 22 points and Caleb Faulkner had 15.
